Thomas Sullivan December 1980 to June 1982 During the fall of 1980, Paul Crea, District Deputy at the time, with the consent of Msgr. McManimon, invited the men of St. Gregory's Parish to a meeting to discuss the formation of a new Knights of Columbus council on the east end of Hamilton Square. The response was overwhelming and on December 8, 1980, St. Gregory the Great Council 7677 was officially instituted. Our Charter Grand Knight Thomas Sullivan along with his dedicated officers began the successful journey that has led to this celebration. Installation of officers was held on February 20, 1981, and, on March 6, 1981, 31 men received the third degree of our order, thus completing our charter membership at 62 brother Knights. This energetic, group began many council activities which we still support today, such as the Retarded Citizens Drive, rose sale supporting Birthright, and support of the Parish carnival. They even found time to form their own certified first-degree team. Since our council began during the middle of a Columbian year, the charter officers were re-elected to serve a full term during the 1981-1982 centennial Columbian year.
