Dwight Torlay July 1988 to June 1989 Was installaled of as our eighth Grand Knight. We began that year by hosting our family picnic at the homes of Bill Wilson and John Gaffney. The planning for this event was great as the temperature reached 95 degrees and lucky for us, our host provided pools. Our Phillies bus trip was a success with Mike Gregus in charge. However, the Phillies lost anyway. After watching the Phillies play, a softball team was formed and began playing at Mercer County Park. Luckily no one can remember the score. That fall George Bush succeeded Ronald Reagan as President of the United States. A new tradition was established as the Knights gathered for a Communion breakfast on every fifth Sunday. At Christmas time, the council with the support of the Delaware Valley United Way, provided 35 Christmas baskets to the needy in the inner city of Trenton. The new year provided a first ever free dinner for our brothers to discuss the benefits of insurance provided by the Knights of Columbus.
