the Double A minor league affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, and our council helped celebrate baseball's return to Mercer County by hosting a family outing at the new Waterfront Park in Trenton. The event was well attended (tickets were free), but unfortunately the Thunder lost. Council 7677 was also honored to be part of the celebration surrounding our Chaplain, Fr. Steve Szmutko, who marked 50 years in the priesthood. We continued our tradition of distributing food baskets to area families during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter holidays, and maintained our commitment to area programs, which we support through the Retarded Citizens Drive. January 1995 marked the first council-sponsored bus trip to Washington, D.C. for the Right-to-Life March. The tragedy of the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City moved the council to pledge a donation to a special children's fund that was created and the Council honored a rescue worker killed assisting the victims with our annual Shield Award. The Parish was saddened by the early departure of our pastor, Father Rich Brietske in June but enthusiastically welcomed our new pastor, Father Rich La Verghetta.became the fourteenth Grand Knight to assume leadership of our council on July 15, 1994.
