Q: I am moving and have a house full of items to donate. Can the Knights take more than one truckload of items?
A: The Knights will make multiple trips for pick-up and at times can coordinate the assistance of vehicles from other charities.
Q: I have my own vehicle and can deliver the items myself. Can the Knights help me determine where to drop-off the items?
A: Yes! Please state this fact in the comments section of your on-line donation form and we will get back to you with donation location details.
Q: Why should I donate rather than sell?
A: This is a personal decision where each individual has to weigh the pros and cons. Often times, the spiritual rewards of giving outweigh the monetary returns of selling. See response below to "What kind of difference can my donation make?"
Q: What kind of difference can my donation make?
A: Furniture donation is especially critical for low income families who are forced to make difficult choices between buying food, furniture, prescription drugs, children's clothes, or school supplies. When you donate furniture and household items, they not only get a second chance, they can also give the recipients a feeling of security, comfort, and home. Your furniture donation, for example, can help formerly homeless people who are transitioning to housing, the working poor who don't have enough income left over after paying for necessities, elderly people on fixed incomes, abused women who leave their situation and seek new shelter, families who have lost possessions or their homes to fire or other disasters, struggling college students, displaced persons from other counties and states (such as our prior and ongoing assistance with Katrina victims still living locally).
Your sofa donation may mean a child does not have to sleep on the floor; a kitchen table and chairs may mean a family can eat together; a desk gives a child a place to do homework; a blender means an elderly person can better prepare meals. Your furniture donation is not only good for people; donated furniture also stays out of our overflowing landfills. (*copied from volunteerguide.org)
Q: Can I donate my items to a specific cause?
A: The Knights currently donate to local parish families, Catholic Charities in Trenton, Project Freedom, City of Angels, Visitation Home. You can list your order of preference under the online Comments section when you donate. If demand at your first choice is not currently available, then we will donate to the next available charity.
Q: I have found another local charity who accepts donations, but I do not see them listed on your site. Are you open to delivering items to new locations?
A: Absolutely! Please forward your ideas for donations and the Knights will consider them. Keep in mind the charity needs to be local and legitimate.
